Powerful Strategies for Transforming Apathy into Motivation

Motivation doesn’t happen with just the wave of a wand (don’t you wish you had one, though?) While I am a business magician . . . it isn’t that easy unfortunately.

There are days when you’re ready to take on the world. There are days when you feel invincible. And then there are days when even getting out of bed is a challenge!

While all of us wish we had some kind of switch that allowed us to be motivated within seconds, reality doesn’t work that way. But if you’ve lost hope and the drive to do better at work, know that you’re not alone.

Studies show that only 13 percent of the world’s population is fully interested and engaged in the work they do. (source: Gallup Poll) Compared to the 7 billion population, that’s pretty low.

But that doesn’t mean you can’t do better or improve. Where there’s a will, there’s a way!

Here are a few powerful strategies you can use to get back in the game!

Analyze What the Problem Is

Think about why you feel disengaged. Do you feel like you’re not going anywhere growth-wise? Do you believe there’s no monetary growth in your field? Do you feel unappreciated at work? Is the nature of the work too overwhelming?

Thinking about it and analyzing the situation can help you get a better understanding of it. It’ll help you understand what you actually want.

Make Small Changes

Now that you’ve analyzed what the situation is and what’s de-motivating you, start by making small but significant changes. Even smiling more often can help improve your day!

If you have a habit of taking too many breaks, maybe limit them to 5–10 minutes. If you hate working on a particular project, tackle it first thing so you don’t have to deal with it later.

Remember to take “baby steps”! You can’t change habits overnight so work on yourself little by little.

Stop Complaining

Harsh? But it’s true! We’re always SO busy ranting about work to our coworkers that we forget that complaining is NOT going to solve the problem!

Sure it takes the stress away but is it a solution? Nope!

Instead of ranting about how that one client is giving you a hard time, utilize your time to come up with a strategy to deal with him/her.

When you ignore your problems or spend time complaining, you end up with even MORE problems. So it’s best to deal with it immediately and save yourself from a massive headache!

Take Initiative

Don’t ignore your problems. As mentioned above, ignorance isn’t always bliss! Instead, tackle the problem immediately so you don’t have to deal with the headache later on.

When you get rid of what’s bothering you immediately, you’ll be more relaxed and less stressed out.

These are just a few things to keep in mind. Remember that you can’t expect to see results overnight. You need to be patient and take the best course of action—taking baby steps!
